Emergency Hydro Jetting in Star, ID

When a drain backs up again a month after it was cabled, or a cable gets stuck in the line, the pipe needs a different kind of cleaning. Hydro jetting in Star is available through our 24/7 dispatch line at (208) 679-8357, and a plumber can tell you what to do while you wait.

Stop using water in the house, keep the washer and dishwasher off, and tell the dispatcher what happened to the earlier cleaning. We look inside the pipe with a camera before jetting, and you hear the price before the work begins.

Repeat clogs and stuck cables: when it turns urgent

A cable punches a hole through a blockage. If grease, scale, or silt lines the whole pipe, that hole narrows again as new waste sticks to the leftover film. Homeowners often describe the same pattern: the drain clears, then slows within weeks, and sometimes a cable catches on something and will not pass.

That pattern is when we suggest jetting, and it is why the call is time sensitive. A line that is barely flowing can back up into the lowest drain at any hour, and we answer the dispatch line around the clock.

While you wait for the plumber

  • Stop running water, especially the washer, dishwasher, and showers.
  • Do not pour chemical drain cleaner into the line. It pools in the pipe and can splash back on whoever opens it.
  • Note whether a previous cable stuck or came back with roots or debris.
  • Photograph any water or sewage that has come up through a drain.

How a water jetter cleans a pipe

A jetter pumps water at high pressure through a hose with a nozzle on the end. Jets point backward, which pulls the hose forward through the pipe while the water scours the wall. A cable cuts through the middle of the blockage. A jet cleans the full circle of the pipe.

Nozzles differ by job. A penetrating nozzle drives forward to open a stoppage. A rotating or spinning nozzle scours the walls and strips grease and scale. A root-cutting nozzle uses a spinning stream to shred fine roots. Our plumbers choose the nozzle and set the pressure to the pipe, not the other way around.

What jetting clears, and what it does not

Grease

Kitchen lines cool the fat into a waxy coat. Jetting strips it from the wall instead of boring through it.

Scale

Mineral and rust scale roughens older pipe and catches waste. A jet can knock down loose scale.

Silt and sludge

Settled solids in a flat or low run wash out under a steady flow of water.

Roots

Fine roots at joints are cut and flushed. Thick roots may return, and the damaged joint behind them still needs a look.

Jetting cleans. It does not repair. A cracked pipe, an offset joint, or a sagging belly stays cracked, offset, or sagging after the water stops, and our sewer line repair page covers what happens next.

When we will not jet: fragile and damaged pipe

Jetting is not safe on every pipe. High-pressure water can finish off a pipe that is already cracked, collapsed, badly corroded, or separated at the joints, and it can wash soil into a break. A very old or thin-walled pipe may not tolerate the same pressure as a sound one.

That is why a camera check comes first on a repeat or stubborn clog. We would rather learn the pipe is fragile before the water goes in than after. If the camera shows a weak or broken pipe, we say so, lower the pressure, use a different method, or recommend repair instead of jetting.

Our sewer camera inspection page explains what the camera shows, and the same look lets us pick a safe jetting setup for the pipe in front of us.

Jetting or cabling: how we choose

Cable or jetter, by situation
SituationUsually betterReason
One slow sink or tub, first timeCableThe plug is close and soft, and a small machine reaches it quickly
Cable passed but the clog returnedJetting after a camera checkA cable leaves the wall coated and the film builds again
Cable got stuck or would not passCamera first, then decideA stuck cable can mean a break, an offset, or a thick root mass
Grease-heavy kitchen lineJettingWater scours grease off the full pipe wall
Root intrusion at jointsCutting nozzle or cable, then repairRoots return unless the opening is sealed

Plenty of clogs are simple and cabling is the right and cheaper answer. Our drain cleaning page covers that work, and we do not recommend jetting just because the equipment is on the truck.

Jetting the main sewer line

The main line is where jetting often matters most, because one coated stretch affects every drain. We jet through a cleanout when one is accessible, then run the camera again to confirm the wall is clean.

If the blockage is in the public main rather than your own line, the Star Sewer and Water District is the one to call. Our sewer line cleaning page explains how we tell which side the problem is on. If a camera check after jetting shows a pipe that has failed, the replacement falls under the 2015 Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) that Idaho adopts as its State Plumbing Code, and we will tell you what that involves.

What affects the price of hydro jetting

  • Line size and lengthA short branch takes less time and water than a long four-inch main.
  • AccessA cleanout near the problem is quick. Pulling a toilet or working from a roof vent takes longer.
  • Severity of buildupHeavy grease or root mass needs more passes with different nozzles.
  • Camera checkLooking before and after adds time and shows whether the pipe is safe to jet and truly clean.
  • TimingA night or weekend call can be priced differently from a scheduled weekday visit, and we state that up front.

Homeowner policies often exclude clogs from wear or buildup but may cover water damage from a sudden backup, so ask your insurer first. For your real number, call (208) 679-8357.

Hydro jetting questions from Star homeowners

Yes. Our dispatch line is open 24 hours a day, every day. If a drain is backing up into your home, call (208) 679-8357 and we will plan the visit with you.

It can on a cracked, collapsed, or badly corroded pipe. That is why we run a camera first and set pressure to the condition of the pipe, or choose another method if the pipe is weak.

Not until we see why it stuck. A stuck cable can mean a root mass, an offset, or a break, and the camera tells us whether jetting is safe or repair comes first.

It depends on the cause. Grease and silt come back if habits stay the same, and roots return if a joint stays open. We tell you what we saw so you know what to expect.

No. It cuts and flushes the roots inside the pipe, but the roots grow back if the joint they entered stays open. A repair or lining is what seals it.
